✈ De Travel Experiences aims to satisfy your curiosity and unique tastes by highlighting premium spots for fun, food, and relaxation through my eyes. Here now is my take on Elgin in Texas.
If you’re ever in Austin, it might be a good idea to stop by Elgin. Straddling Travis and Bastrop counties, Elgin is a suburban city in the Greater Austin metropolitan area. With historic buildings and a number of parks and museums, it’s a wonderful spot for a quiet getaway. And, depending on the time of year you visit, there are a number of events to look forward to, such as the Hogeye Festival.
Here are three cool things to do in Elgin:
- Check out the Elgin Antique Mall
If you like collecting cool mementos and memorabilia, it will be worth your while to make a stop at the Elgin Antique Mall. Here, you can find a wide variety of unique items, including glassware, antique furniture, jewelry, old cookware, and even old comics. Something is sure to catch your eye.
- Visit the Elgin Depot Museum
A historic city in its own right, the Elgin Museum is a good place to visit if you want to get a glimpse of past life in the city. High points of visiting the museum include a World War I exhibit, a communications exhibit featuring a restored switchboard, among other things, and a repository of historic photographs. You can even have research done on a particular topic related to the area by the helpful staff.
- Go on a Walking Tour
There’s no better way to get to know Elgin than to get out and about in the community. The local Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Board organize walking tours for groups throughout the year, which covers many of the interesting sites in Elgin. You can get to explore the entire historic downtown district, as well as the famed Christmas Tree Farms, and the Southside Market & BBQ. You can even get to do some shopping during the tour, so it’s a great way to experience much of what Elgin has to offer.
